Understanding energy market price volatility, and the reasons for any variations on your energy use (and expenditure) is an essential aspect of any business strategy that is incorporating climate-based risks – or simply looking for operational cost reduction. Our energy management programme support provides on-going guidance on the effective management of all aspects of your operational energy use. We track consumption trends against changing business activities, whether it be manufacturing production on the number of people using your buildings, we define good practice, assessing any anomalies, identify where consumption might be reduced and look at your longer-term energy and carbon reduction aspirations. We can also advise on your procurement strategy and the verification of renewable energy sources.
Our service is tailored to provide the level of support appropriate to both the scale of your organisation and your internal resources, ranging from monthly reporting to annual reviews.
Whether considering a decarbonisation programme or simply looking for cost reductions, our energy audits provide a comprehensive assessment of existing energy systems, aiming to identify where energy is used. They focus on reducing energy consumption and cover operational improvements, the potential to install specific energy efficiency technologies and the identification of equipment upgrade or replacement options. The audits also address the increasing need for decarbonisation, identifying both short-term measures and assessing your asset management strategy for longer-term strategic options to adopt low-carbon technologies.
Our audit process involves an initial desktop energy review, a site survey followed by analysis and a report. They are stand-alone projects that provide actionable insights with clear recommendations. However, we also provide support with the implementation of the measures, providing impartial advice but working with trusted partners and suppliers to deliver the savings identified.
Are audits also support compliance with the ESOS legislation and can be undertaken at any time, irrespective of the deadlines set for each phase.
Many buildings do not operate as they were originally designed to do, or changes in the way the building is used have not been reflected in the operation of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. We offer a staged approach to the improvement of the energy performance of your buildings.
The first stage is a review of your building services controls system(s), typically a centralised BMS. This culminates in a detailed report, identifying control strategy modifications and/or recommendations for enhancing existing sensors and actuators. The second stage is a hands-on programme, which we deliver in conjunction with a strategic partner. This is tailored to your requirements but ranges from regular (monthly) reviews to a bureau service, which dependent on the on-site engineering resource, would include with appropriate alarm notifications or direct intervention on the BMS.
The UK has recently adopted and adapted the Australian energy benchmarking scheme, Nabers, which is currently being applied to office buildings only. The rating achieved is based on actual energy use, rather than the design concept of an EPC and demonstrates to tenants and investors a commitment to environmental best practice.
We have direct experience in the operation of the Nabers energy benchmarking system and can apply the Nabers UK system to your office. Our service is currently restricted to an initial high-level assessment and gap analysis, but will soon include the full, formal certification.
To accompany the certification process, we can apply our Performance Optimisation service to work closely with your site operations team to monitor performance and maintain a continuous assessment process that identifies the potential risks associated with the annual recertification.
